Apprenticeship schemes

FCT has been involved in developing, managing and providing extensive support for work based learning (WBL) apprenticeship programmes since 1995.
Apprenticeships allow you to invest in the future of your business. By taking on an apprentice you can acquire specialist skills that allow you to keep abreast of new technology within your sector.
Apprenticeships are designed and developed by industry bodies, known as Sector Skills Councils, for each industry. This means the training is always relevant and is tailored to the needs of your business and your sector by people who genuinely understand what you do.
Typically apprenticeships consist of:
- Competence based element (NVQ).
- Knowledge based element (Technical Certificate).
- Transferable skills (Key Skills – Application of Number, Communication, ICT, Improving Own Learning and Performance and Working with Others). Click here for our Key Skills.
- Employment rights and responsibilities.
Apprenticeships are the Government’s preferred work related learning route for all young people aged 16 to 24 and adults aged 25 and above who are capable of achieving full frameworks at Levels 2 and 3. There are two levels of apprenticeships:
- Apprenticeships – usually last at least a year and apprentices work towards an NVQ at Level 2, Key Skills at Level 1 and in some cases a technical certificate at Level 2.
- Advanced apprenticeships – usually last at least two years and apprentices work towards an NVQ at Level 3, Key Skills at Level 2 and a technical certificate at Level 3.
